What is it?
GlobeCARE, a project in the field of healthcare, aims to improve the quality of life of people in rural areas by providing them with the services of city doctors in their villages. This pioneering concept provides video based medical services at the village level. Parivartan Foundation has set up Telemedicine Patient Centres (TPC) in the villages of Juvvalapalem, Guttavaripalem and Potharalanka in Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh. These centers equipped with state of the art technology to carry out diagnosis are staffed by a nurse who connects the patient to a doctor in the city. The technology enables the doctor to carry out the diagnostic tests and interact with the patient as if she was actually in his clinic. These TPCs are equipped to get an ECG, tests for malaria, diabetes also done. This project has connected villages which earlier had highly limited access to medical facilities to highly experienced doctors in the city.
How is it run?
This project is run by Parivartan as implementing partner of Viziniti Global LLC. Each TPC has a nurse, a computer and the IT enabled medical kit. This model of video and remote medical diagnostics acquisition based telemedicine reaches a population of about 1,00,000. The doctor after examining the patient through video conferencing writes a prescription which is printed at the village center. All the centers are now fully functional and are being completely utilized by the villagers.
